REAL TALK: I reckon many beginner brand designers took the same path as how I started, which is to not include strategising for a brand before anything else. Upon reflection, it always felt off; my designs were largely driven by what's trending in the design world, or inspired by something I've seen on Pinterest.

I reckon many beginner brand designers took the same path as how I started, which is to not include strategising for a brand before anything else. Upon reflection, it always felt off; my designs were largely driven by what's trending in the design world, or inspired by something I've seen on Pinterest.

After learning about the importance of strategy when designing for a brand, a whole new world opened up to me, I felt way more intentional and that my designs were more purpose-driven and strategic to ensure the timelessness and appeal of a brand.

So to all business owners out there, brand strategy is important. And not just for the design and creative part, but for all different touch points involved in creating and positioning your bespoke brand
1. Designing without strategy is a shot in the dark
Without a baseline or purpose, it is impossible to know not just what the client wants, but what the client really wants. Even if the client ends up loving it, will it really help achieve their business goals?
2. It doesn't operate on a proper understanding of the brand.
Pinterest, moodboards and scattered ideas don't equip you with sufficient knowledge about the brand. Properly getting to the core of a brand requires much more, and without that, the work you provide has less value.
3. There is no justification or reasoning for your choices.
Often, clients ask for concepts that feel wrong or unstrate-gic. But without a concrete strategy to present, there is no valid justification for why you did something, and why you shouldn't do something.
4. It makes for a chaotic & disorganized creative process.
A strategy gives you a guideline to follow, and isn't reliant on random bursts of inspiration. If your ideas are all over the place, your process will be too. It makes for a more time-con-suming and draining workflow.
5. Strategy guides creativity and hones it into better results.
Brand strategy shows the best way forward, and gives guided parameters to create something within. The result — a more productive, intentional process, and happier cli-ents!
